The Tree of Authenticity (OmeU)

Im Herzen des Kongo-Regenwaldes offenbaren die Überreste eines Forschungszentrums für Tropenlandwirtschaft die Last der kolonialen Vergangenheit und ihre Verbindungen zum heuti- gen Klimawandel. Eingebettet in Afrikas größten Regenwald liegt eines der vielen Mahnmale westlicher Bemühungen, Nationen und Natur zu kontrollieren: die Yangambi INERA-Forschungssta- tion, einst ein blühendes wissenschaftliches Zentrum am Ufer des Kongo. Heute ist sie ein Mix aus Dschungel und Ruinen, der Fragen nach Wissen, Macht und Zugang aufwirft. The TREE OF AUTHENTICITY erzählt von der ökologischen Zerstörung seit der Kolonialzeit aus der Sicht der zwei Wissenschaftler Paul Panda Farnana und Abiron Beirnaert sowie des Baumes selbst.

In the heart of the Congo rainforest, the remains of a research cen- tre dedicated to tropical agriculture reveal the burden of the colo- nial past and its links to contemporary climate change. Nestled in Africa’s largest rainforest lies one of the many graves of the West’s efforts to control nations and nature: the Yangambi INERA Re- search Station, once a thriving scientific centre on the banks of the Congo River. Today, it is a mix of jungle and ruin, raising questions about knowledge, power, and access. The TREE OF AUTHENTICITY recounts ecological destruction from colonisation through the voic- es of the two scientists Paul Panda Farnana and Abiron Beirnaert as well as the tree itself.
